SINCE 2018

A Legacy in the Highland Canopy

Unbound Falconry was created from a love of wild places, birds of prey and the quiet, powerful connection between people and the natural world.

Based near Inverness, we offer private falconry experiences shaped by landscape, weather, wildlife and the individual character of each bird. Our work is rooted in respect: respect for the bird, respect for the land, and respect for the ancient tradition of falconry.

This is not a rushed visitor attraction or a staged performance. Our experiences are calm, personal and bird-led. Whether you join us for a woodland hawk walk, a private 1-to-1 falconry session, or invite us to bring a hawk walk to your own farm, castle, estate or lodge, the aim is always the same: to create a meaningful encounter with a bird of prey in a natural setting.

A Different Kind of Falconry Experience

Falconry is often described as one of the oldest field sports in the world, but to us it is also a relationship built on trust, patience and careful observation.

Every flight depends on the bird, the wind, the weather, the landscape and the decisions made in the moment. A hawk is not a prop or a performer. It is a living, thinking animal with instinct, confidence and choice. That is what makes falconry so special.

Our experiences are designed to help guests understand this relationship. You will learn how a hawk reads the landscape, how it responds to the handler, and how welfare always comes before expectation. Where conditions allow, guests may have the opportunity to call the bird to the glove and feel the unforgettable moment of a trained hawk flying directly to them.

Rooted in the Highlands

Conservation

We are dedicated to the protection of Scotland's birds of prey. Every walk supports habitat restoration and the preservation of ancient Highland ecosystems.

Connection

Our purpose is to bridge the gap between people and the wild, creating quiet spaces for authentic, slow-paced interaction with nature.

Education

We believe that understanding fosters love. Our experiences share the deep biology and historic folklore of falconry and Highland wildlife.

Our main location is near Tornagrain, just outside Inverness, with easy access from Inverness Airport, Inverness Train Station and the surrounding Highland area. It is a peaceful setting, close enough to reach easily but still connected to open countryside, woodland edges and the wider Highland landscape.

We also offer mobile hawk walks at suitable private locations, including castles, farms, estates, lodges, gardens, retreats and exclusive Highland stays. Each location brings its own atmosphere, whether it is an old stone wall, a sheltered field edge, a castle lawn or a quiet track through private land.

The landscape is never just a backdrop. It is part of the experience.

More Than a Hawk Walk

Our work sits at the meeting point between falconry, wildlife, conservation and Highland storytelling.

Guests do not simply meet a bird of prey; they are invited to understand its behaviour, instincts and place in the wider landscape. We talk about training, ecology, welfare, fieldcraft and the long relationship between humans and birds of prey.

For some guests, it is a once-in-a-lifetime Highland experience. For others, it is the beginning of a deeper interest in falconry, birds, wildlife or the outdoors.

Either way, we want people to leave with more than a photograph. We want them to leave with a stronger connection to the living world around them.

Our Approach

We believe falconry should be personal, ethical and unhurried.

Each session is kept small and carefully managed, allowing guests time to ask questions, observe the bird and understand what is happening. We do not believe in overcrowded experiences or forcing a bird to fly when conditions are not right.

Every booking is guided by three principles: welfare, safety and connection.

The welfare of the bird always comes first. Sessions may be adapted depending on weather, ground conditions, bird behaviour or safety considerations.

This honest, flexible approach allows each experience to feel more natural and more respectful.

Why “Unbound”?

The name Unbound reflects the feeling we want our experiences to create: a sense of stepping away from the ordinary and into the wild rhythm of the landscape.

Falconry cannot be fully controlled or scripted. It depends on trust, timing and freedom. A hawk moves through the world differently from us, reading wind, trees, distance and movement in ways we can only begin to understand.

That sense of freedom is at the heart of what we do.

Whether you are joining us for a private hawk walk near Inverness, booking a special experience on your own land, or looking for something memorable during your Highland stay, we would be delighted to share the world of falconry with you.

“An experience that stays in your soul. To feel the wind of a hawk’s wings is beyond words.”

— ELENA M.
